Details of Key Stage 3

Time allocation:

All pupils in sets 1-6 at KS3 have four 1 hour lessons per week

 

Year 7

Pupils will be set on ability

 

Schemes of Work

Throughout Year 7 pupils use differentiated schemes of work based upon the National Numeracy Strategy.

 

Assessment

There are 14 formal assessments during the year. The final examination will be the Optional SAT where pupils sit either the level 4-6 or 3-5 papers. After each examination pupils complete an ASL (Assessment to Support Learning) sheet which encourages the individual to identify strengths and weaknesses as well as setting targets.

 

Homework

Set once per week (see Academy Homework Timetable).

 

Year 8

Pupils are placed in sets based upon examination and teacher assessment in Year 7.

 

Schemes of Work

Pupils use differentiated schemes of work based upon the National Numeracy Strategy.

Details of Key Stage 4

Year 9

  • Pupils are placed in sets based upon examination and teacher assessment in Year 8.
  • Pupils have 5 x 1 hour lessons a week.  There are 6 set with set 1 and 2 studying higher tier

 

Schemes of Work

Schemes of work are based on the appropriate examination specification as detailed below using the Collins textbook as the main text in all sets . Sets 1 -2 AQA  Higher Sets 4 – 7 AQA Foundation.

 

Assessment

Internal examinations are held throughout the year and assessment booklets completed highlighting any strengths or weaknesses. In the summer term pupils will sit a SATs exam to obtain their end of KS3 level.

2 external exams to be taken at the end of Year 10 (dates to be confirmed)

Years 10 and 11

  • Pupils are placed in sets based upon  examination and teacher assessment in Year 9.
  • Pupils have 4 x 1 hour lessons per week
  • Pupils in sets 1 and 2 will study the higher tier

Details of Key Stage 5

AS level

Mathematics

4 hours per week, taught in 2hr blocks.

In Year 12 students will complete Modules MPC1, MPC2, MS1 B or MD01 to obtain AS Mathematics.

Year 13

4 hours per week, taught in 2hr blocks.

In year 13 students complete AQA mathematics modules MPC3, MPC4.MS1B OR MD01.
