Details of Key Stage 3
In PE all students are encouraged to develop their practical performance across a range of sports, both traditional and non-traditional. This allows students to make progress in skill and technical development, as well developing their tactical awareness. All students will have the opportunity to evaluate and improve their own and others work through the use of both written and verbal feedback. Students receive two one hour lessons of PE each week. Our PE lessons examine all aspects of sport including performing, officiating and coaching. Students are taught mainly in single sex groups and are closely monitored in order to help each child succeed and achieve their full potential. Throughout key stage 3 students have the opportunity to take part in a number of extra-curricular clubs, this includes regular competitions and fixtures with other schools.
Details of Key Stage 4
Students are encouraged to specialise in Sporting activities that they have a particular interest or talent in. Students are given some opportunity to map their own curriculum allowing them to build on skills, techniques and tactics previously learnt.
Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles in lessons and there are more opportunities to develop as sports officials eg, referee’s, umpires etc.
Throughout key stage 4 students have the opportunity to take part in a number of extra-curricular clubs, this includes regular competitions and fixtures with other schools.
BTEC LEVEL 1 AND 2 FIRST AWARD IN SPORT
Students study 4 units over two years and have the opportunity to achieve the equivalent of two GCSE’s. In year 1 they all study;
Practical Sports Performance.
Students will focus on developing and improving their own practical sports performance. This is achieved through active participation in practical activities and reflection on their own performance and that of other sports performers.
Fitness for Sport and Exercise
Students will gain an appreciation and understanding of the different fitness components, training principles, training methods and fitness tests which can be incorporated into their training regime to further enhance and improve their sports performance.
In Year 2 they will go onto study;
Training for Personal Fitness
Students will look at the training effects that occur when a person regularly
participates in sport and physical activity over a given period of time
Leading Sports Activities
Students will learn the attributes associated with successful sports leadership. Students undertake the planning an leading of sports activities. Students will then review the planning and leading of sports activities.
