Students from Year 10 were treated to an action-pack and informative morning courtesy of the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team before lunch on Friday 7th April 2017.
Having being split up into two working groups, the students took turns in the following sessions:
- Catering aboard – delivered by a qualified Royal Navy Chef, students saw how sailors are kept fit and healthy through the food they are served. A delicious chicken curry was prepared and offered for tasting, whilst students had the opportunity to quiz the chef on life aboard ship, as well as serving in the Royal Navy generally.
- PT (Physical Training) – delivered by a Royal Navy Physical Training Instructor, and a Royal Marines Commando, students were put through their paces to see if they had the stamina and determination to make it in a Royal Navy PT session. Through engaging and demanding team games, the sailors showed how potential recruits need to be and stay active, in order to ensure they are fighting fit each day.
The morning was rounded off with a full presentation from the Youth Engagement Team, talking about the various roles and responsibilities of the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Commandos, as well as the Reserve Forces. A truly fantastic morning was enjoyed by all, with our guests giving praise to all students that took part for their positive attitudes, welcoming nature and thoughtful questions.
From all the staff and students at Ash Hill Academy, we would like to wish the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team a hearty thanks for their time today.
