  • CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION

    Our Year 8 students have been involved in a design competition, as part of their Art work, to design the official Ash Hill Academy 2016 Christmas card. The entries were very difficult for Mr Higgins to judge, as the quality of design was so high, and it was clear that a lot of thought was put into them by Year 8.

    However, we can now announce the winners of the Christmas Card competition:

    This morning a group of our Year 7 students decorated the academy Christmas tree in main reception. The decorations that they applied, which were all designed and made by our Year 7 students in Art, are part of a competition judged by Mr Higgins.

    Record Breaking Attendance to Maths enrichment.

    I would just like to send out a massive CONGATULATIONS to all the Year 11 students that attended the enrichment session on Monday night.

    A staggering 92% of the year group attended, they were engaged and worked on vital topics in readiness for their mock exams.

    Domino’s pizza was enjoyed by all and they managed to demolish 25 large pizzas in minutes.

    We are incredibly proud to announce that three of our very talented Year 7 students have been successful in having their artwork included on a charity calendar for 2017.

    During their final year at Primary School, the students (Kayleigh Hatton, Freyya-Lillie Haver, and Aisha Magee) entered the 22nd Walker Morris Charity Calendar competition.   • Y11 'A CHRISTMAS CAROL'

    This morning our Year 11 students were treated to the return of theatre troupe ManACTCo, who performed their rendition of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. This was as part of our drive to help students better understand some of the harder aspects of the English Literature syllabus.

  • STUDENT PARADES FOR TRAFALGAR DAY

    We are very proud to announce that a student of Ash Hill Academy, Kaleigh Mason, took part in this year’s Trafalgar Day Parade in London. Miss Mason, a member of the Sea Cadet Corps, paraded as part of the greater host of Forces personnel who commemorated the Battle of Trafalgar (21st October 1805) – a turning point in British history.

    As a mark of respect, the Academy will be observing a one minute silence today. This will be signalled by the session bell sounding at 11:05, followed by a double-ring at 11:06. All members of staff, students, and visitors are asked to please observe this silence as a mark of respect on Armistice Day.

  • AUTISM AWARENESS ASSEMBLIES

    Assemblies were given to Years 7, 8, and 9 this morning about Autism Awareness from the specialist ASD Teacher Ms Robson from DMBC. After a brief video presentation explaining ‘Top Tips for Coping with ASD’ and ‘Key Aspects of ASD’, Ms Robson then explained what Autism Spectrum Disorder is, and how students might come across those affected by it.

    As it is Remembrance Day on Friday, assemblies this week will be based on a Remembrance theme and will be delivered by Mrs Wright.

    However, on Wednesday 9th November we will have presentations delivered by the ASD specialist Ms Robson. These assemblies will focus on 'What it means to be ASD '.  

    The ASD assemblies on Wednesday will run at the following times:

    10.25 – 10.40 Year 9 (Normal assembly time)

    UPDATE: Maths enrichment has expanded to include FRIDAY afternoons too! Starting today (Fri 04/11/16) students can access support in the Maths department from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on Friday afternoons.

  • Y11 INFORMATION EVENING

    Y11 students and their parents/carers were invited to an Information Evening on Tuesday 1st November. The evening began at 5.30pm with a light buffet, followed by a presentation at 6pm, to discuss key dates and deadlines throughout the year, hints and tips on how to revise for examinations and key information about English, Maths and Science. Students also received goody bags, containing supplies to aid them in their journeys to GCSE success.

  • Y11 PRAISE ASSEMBLY

    Our Year 11 students had their first ever Praise Assembly this morning, to recognise all their hard work and effort during this first half term. On entry to the assembly students were offered a choice of snacks, from bacon sandwiches to pizza slices, as well as juice drinks. Mrs Callaghan (Vice Principal) addressed the assembly, informing them of the reasons why they were going to be praised, before handing over to staff to present the various awards.

    Unfortunately the Craft Club enrichment session this Wednesday 19th Oct has had to be cancelled, due to a clash with an after-school staff meeting. The next Craft Club enrichment session will be on Wednesday 2nd November.

    The students of Y11 held their first Bun Sale on Friday 14 October, in order to raise funds for their Graduation Ball next Summer. Exact figures are yet to be announced, but we would like to thank all those who bought buns for helping Y11 reach their goal.     ManActCo inspire laughter and tears!

    As part of our drive to help students better understand some of the harder aspects of the English Literature syllabus, we have employed a visiting theatre group to perform set GCSE texts on three separate occasions at Ash Hill Academy.  ManActCo performed no less than 24 poems and excerpts from 3 separate Shakespeare plays within an hour, to start this process rolling on the morning of the 14th October.  They also lead a question and answer session for 30 minutes afterwar
