    15th February 2017

    Throughout today students from all year groups are taking part in the Doncaster Youth Council elections. The vote is a way for young people to put into practice the knowledge they have gained of the democratic system, by electing candidates from their own school, who will then represent them at the local Youth Council meetings. The Youth Councillors will take the views and opinions from their area’s young people, and present them to local authority decision makers, who will in turn use that information to s

    After a successful Autumn/Winter program of activities for the daily Enrichment sessions, we would like to thank both students and staff for their involvement. This program of activities will close on Friday 17th February at 3.30pm.

    13th February 2017

    On Saturday 11th February, 8 students from Ash Hill Academy visited Cambridge University. When students arrived they received a presentation that focused on the university application process and an overview of the different courses available at Oxbridge. Students had the opportunity to explore the university and Cambridge city centre. They also visited the Scott Polar Research Institute to find out how current students utilise the museum for research purposes. The visit was a fantastic experience for the A

    The Universities of Oxford and Cambridge are delighted to be hosting a parents information evening for parents and guardians who want to learn more about how to support students thinking of applying to these or other top universities. The event will be delivered by Schools Liaison Officers from Homerton and Mansfield Colleges. All events are free of charge.

    10th February 2017

    The academy will be holding an All Years Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 14th February 2017, starting at 3.00pm. This will offer both students and their families a chance to check on progress made so far this term, as well as discuss next steps for the coming term. Year 11 students in particular will benefit from attending this evening, as they can discuss revision strategies and exam practice with their subject teachers.

    6th February 2017

    This week’s assemblies are all focusing on the topic of E-Safety, delivered by the academy’s E-Safety Lead Mr. Reynolds (KS3/4). Mr Blackett will lead for KS5. All KS3 ICT lessons will discuss and expand on the topic, outlining how images posted to the internet and social media could be used against you.

    All of the assemblies will link to Safer Internet Day, which is on Tuesday 7th February.


    18th January 2017

    The KS4 Mock Exam series will begin week commencing Monday 23rd January. Students will meet at 8.25 (morning exams) or 12.30 (afternoon exam) in the Auditorium. Any student arriving late to an exam, must wait at student reception to be escorted into the exam room by either Mrs Welch or Mrs Bromilow.

    4th January 2017

    The academy will be holding a Year 8 Options Evening at 6pm on Tuesday 10th January. All parents and carers of Year 8 students are encouraged to attend, along with Year 8 students, to gain a better insight into the Options process. There be plenty of opportunity to speak with subject teachers about each course on offer next academic year, as well as chances to speak with careers advisors, and representatives from Leeds University about future career options.

    “I would like to thank people for their support and donations for the Christmas raffle last year, we raised an amazing £179 which will be going towards Year 11 Prom this year.     BrightBus Service – January 2017

    BrightBus, the company that operates the school service that our students access, have informed us that as from January 2017 their services are being renumbered. The morning service has been renumbered to 555 for Ash Hill students. The afternoon services, 556 and 555 will be combined, and also renumbered to 555 for Ash Hill students.

    Below are the timings for the services – PLEASE NOTE the bus will stop at all stops along the route, if required.

    After a recent visit to Sheffield Hallam University, we were very happy to receive a message of thanks from their Pre 16 Engagement Coordinator, Mr J Wilmshurst.

    Mr Wilmshurst sent thanks to both the students and staff via Mrs Welch, for being such wonderful guests of Sheffield Hallam University – “Thank you for visiting us last week, we really enjoyed hosting you and you were a great bunch of pupils, parents and teachers to work with…I hope you enjoyed the visit as much as we did.”

    The Student and Academy Leadership Teams have agreed that it is important to support our community, especially at this festive time of year, and have chosen to show that support by fundraising for Save the Children with a Christmas Jumper Day.

    On Friday 16th December for the last day of term, students (and staff) at Ash Hill Academy may wear a Christmas Jumper with their uniforms, instead of the normal shirt and tie beneath their blazers – for a £1 donation to charity.

    Mrs Whitter would like to thank the Year 11 Art & Design and Photography students, for attending a studio support session to work on final major outcomes, for their course work portfolios. An amazing up take for the evening resulted in 38 students attending until 6.30pm! She would also like to thank the Art and Photography staff, for supporting with this very successful evening of achievement.

    In order to raise funds for the Year 11 End of year Ball, there will be a Christmas Raffle held in the Learner Achievement Centre (LAC) on Wednesday 14th December. Tickets are available now from Year 11 students at Break and Lunch times or from the Personal Learning Centre (DV13), priced at just 20p per ticket, or £1 for a strip of tickets.

    In order to raise funds for their end of year ball, our Year 11 students and their supporting staff have been seeking donations for raffle prizes. Mrs Swainston has asked that a special message of thanks be sent out to all the wonderful people – students, their families, and even local businesses – who have kindly donated items for prizes already.     On Monday afternoon as part of our Enrichment program, Mrs Doyle and Mrs Wakeham took some of our female students across to Coppice School, to engage their female students in a range of fun activities. Having been invited by Coppice Deputy Head Mrs Willis to form the collaborative “Coppice Girls” support group, girls from all years at Ash Hill were willing and eager to help.

    As part of the Christmas competitions, students were asked to design and make a tree topper for the Academy Christmas Tree in main reception. The winning entry was judged by Mr Higgins on Friday, and placed on the Academy Christmas Tree by Year 7 students with the Christmas Bauble competition entries.
