Ash Hill Awarded Nation Accolade

It has achieved the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) by the Geographical Association, putting the team among a select group of 20 schools nationally recognized for outstanding Geography teaching and learning.

Ash Hill is the first school in the Trust and in Doncaster to achieve the accolade. Head of Geography Tiffany Smart, supported by Director Emma Green, were behind the entry, starting the process in September 2024 and being awarded it a year later.

Emma said:

“This award reflects the dedication and expertise of our Geography team. Their innovative approach ensures that students not only learn about the world but develop the skills to understand and shape it.”

The process to attain the SGQM involves a detailed self-assessment and submission of evidence, showcasing excellence in curriculum planning, teaching strategies, and student outcomes. Ash Hill Academy’s success highlights its focus on collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement, said Tiffany.

The award is celebrated by Teacher of Geography Katie Atkinson, Head of Geography Tiffany Smart and Head of EPC and Teacher of Geography Katy Conlon.

“We are passionate about making geography engaging and meaningful,”

“This recognition validates our efforts and inspires us to keep pushing boundaries. A special thanks to my team and Emma Green for her continued support throughout this process.”

The SGQM, valid for three years, is a rigorous quality assurance framework designed to raise standards in Geography education.

Schools that achieve this mark demonstrate a commitment to delivering a dynamic and relevant curriculum, fostering critical thinking, and promoting global awareness among students.
