Our Student Council recently embarked on an unforgettable trip to London, where they experienced democracy in action during a Parliament tour—a key opportunity that enriched both their understanding of British values and their development as active, informed citizens.
The adventure began with students navigating the London Underground, gaining valuable independence and confidence as they explored the capital. Excitement quickly built as the group arrived at Westminster, ready to step into the historic corridors of power.
Welcomed by our fantastic guide Nick, and hosted by local MP Lee Pitcher, students were treated to an insightful and inspiring tour of the Houses of Parliament, including the House of Lords. Along the way, they engaged in a brilliant Q&A session, learning more about how laws are made and the role of elected officials in shaping the country. Sitting in the very chambers where national decisions are debated gave students a deeper appreciation for the democratic process and their own potential to influence the future.
The visit forms an important part of our wider personal development and citizenship curriculum, supporting students in developing key knowledge around governance, rights and responsibilities, and political literacy. For many, this was their first time seeing the capital and visiting such historic sites—an experience that significantly enhanced their cultural capital and left a lasting impact.
After the tour, students enjoyed sightseeing around iconic landmarks including Big Ben and the London Eye, making memories and deepening their understanding of British history and culture.
This trip provided more than just a day out—it was an inspirational learning journey that empowered our student leaders and celebrated their role in shaping our school community.
