As part of our ongoing This is Us programme—designed to enrich cultural understanding and develop students’ appreciation of identity, heritage, and shared interests—students took a fascinating dive into the origins of table tennisduring this morning’s session.

Exploring how the sport evolved from a parlour game in Victorian England to a fast-paced international competition, students were surprised to learn that table tennis balls can travel at speeds of up to 60mph! The session not only provided historical context but also showcased the global appeal and cultural significance of the sport today.

The This is Us series is a key part of our personal development and cultural capital provision, helping students understand the wider world and fostering curiosity, respect, and a sense of belonging. Engaging in topics like this promotes critical thinking and encourages students to explore areas beyond the academic curriculum.

By offering these rich and varied experiences, we continue to support our students in becoming well-rounded individuals who are informed, open-minded, and equipped for life in modern Britain.
