How we support British Values at Ash Hill Academy
At Ash Hill Academy, we actively promote and embed British Values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance, through our curriculum, personal development programme, and wider school experiences.
Students are given a strong voice through the School Council and student leadership opportunities, where they can share opinions, influence decision-making, and experience democracy in action. The rule of law is reinforced through our behaviour systems, clear expectations, and partnerships with external agencies such as the police and fire service, helping students understand the importance of rules, consequences, and keeping safe.
Individual liberty is promoted by encouraging students to make informed choices, take responsibility for their actions, and engage in a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including trips, careers events, and the Ambition Programme. We also provide a safe environment where students feel confident to express themselves and develop their own interests and aspirations.
Mutual respect and tolerance are embedded across the academy through assemblies, form time, and whole-school awareness events such as cultural celebrations, equality campaigns, and themed months such as Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Our partnerships with organisations such as With Me In Mind, the NHS, and community groups further support students in understanding diversity, wellbeing, and respect for others.
Through these combined approaches, Ash Hill Academy ensures that British Values are not only taught but lived and experienced by all students, preparing them to be respectful, responsible, and active members of society.
